Produced by BBI International and Co-Located With the International Biomass Conference & Expo

CHARLOTTE, NC--(Marketwired - Feb 17, 2016) - BBI International announced this week the addition of an industry tour to the On-Site Energy Conference & Expo agenda. Taking place April 11-13 in Charlotte, North Carolina, and co-located with the ninth annual International Biomass Conference & Expo, the On-Site Energy Conference & Expo will bring together commercial, institutional and industrial energy professionals who are evaluating or already managing on-site power and thermal energy technologies. This three-day event will offer industry-leading content and networking opportunities for those engaged in on-site energy asset installation, operations and maintenance.

The Alevo Battery & GridBank Manufacturing plant at the sprawling Victory Industrial Park in Concord, North Carolina -- a former Philip Morris complex just 20 miles from Charlotte -- will be the first tour stop. Registered attendees will get a first-hand look at Alevo's battery manufacturing process and learn about utility-scale energy storage. Participants will gain a better understanding of Alevo's plan to produce 16 GWh of batteries per year.

"We are excited to give attendees the opportunity to see the Alevo Battery & GridBank Manufacturing plant up close," says Tom Bryan, president of BBI International. "The team at Alevo is bringing unprecedented attributes to the energy storage market through its battery technology and GridBank."

The second stop on the tour is Duke Energy's microgrid test site located at the utility's McAlpine substation in south Charlotte. Created by Duke Energy's Emerging Technology group, the system includes a 50 kW solar array plus a 500 kW battery storage unit with an automated test circuit that gives the microgrid automatic islanding and re-sync capabilities. The system enables an adjacent fire station to remain fully operable during periods of prolonged grid outages. Tour attendees will see the microgrid's distributed energy resources, switchgear and controls, along with an explanation of how it all works from the system's chief architect.

"Both Duke Energy's microgrid test site and Alevo's Battery & GridBank Manufacturing plant give attendees an inside look at successful companies actively doing business within the on-site energy industry," says John Nelson, director of marketing and sales at BBI International. "Monday's tour is an excellent addition to the already full week that contains the International Biomass Conference & Expo, On-Site Energy Conference & Expo, the Global Pellet Market Outlook Summit and tours at the Blue Sphere Waste-to-Energy Facility and McAlpine Creek Wastewater Management Facility."

The tour commences Monday, April 11, from 8:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Attendees will leave from the event center in Charlotte. Lunch will be provided on the tour bus.
